About us
Formerly the AusACPDM, the Oceania Academy of Cerebral Palsy and other Childhood-onset Disabilities (Oceania Academy) provides multidisciplinary scientific education for health professionals and to promote excellence in research and best practice clinical care for children and adults with cerebral palsy and developmental conditions.
Our purpose
The Oceania Academy of Cerebral Palsy and other Childhood-Onset Disabilities aims to provide opportunities for connection, learning, and advocacy towards meaningful participation and improved quality of life for and with people with cerebral palsy and other childhood-onset disabilities across the lifespan, by promoting contemporary best practice that centres diverse lived experience and high-quality, multidisciplinary research.
To achieve our vision and purpose, our strategic priorities for the next five years are:
- Embed the role of people with lived experience of childhood-onset disability in the leadership and work of the Academy.
- Strengthen diversity through meaningful connection with and increased participation of people from geographic areas, cultures, disciplines, career stages and lived experiences who are currently underrepresented in Academy activities and membership.
- Promote best-practice through accessible, high-quality learning, knowledge exchange and visibility of research about and with people with childhood-onset disability across the lifespan
- Maintain and strengthen the Academy’s governance and operational foundations to ensure long-term sustainability and impact within and beyond Oceania.

A change in name to the Oceania Academy
In 2025, our Academy elected to change our name from the The Australasian Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AusACPDM) to the Oceania Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Childhood-onset Disability (Oceania Academy). This new name better reflects the geographical region we represent and a lifelong approach to care for childhood-onset disabilities. For more insight into the change, visit our announcement.
Oceania Academy Equity Position Statement
The Oceania Academy of Cerebral Palsy and other Childhood-onset Disabilities (Oceania Academy) has developed this statement to guide our Academy’s commitment to diversity and to promote equity. The Oceania Academy is committed to ensuring that an inclusive and equity-driven approach is embedded in all Academy activities. This statement is a starting point and a call for action to address the inequities in experiences and outcomes for people living with childhood-onset disability across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The aim of this statement is to guide the activities of Oceania Academy and to ensure that equity is a priority of our work, both now and into the future.
