Seeking Expressions of Interest for Oceania Academy representatives on the IAACD Participation and Lived Experience Committee
The establishment of this Committee marks an important step in strengthening and embedding meaningful participation of persons with lived experience of childhood-onset disability (PWLE) across all IAACD structures and activities. The Committee will play a key role in advising IAACD and Member Academies, promoting models of authentic participation, and supporting leadership development and inclusion.
The guidance for the new committee can be viewed here. One of the key goals of the committee would be to implement the ‘IAACD Charter for promoting Inclusion and Participation‘.
We are seeking nominations of individuals who are committed to this vision and who can contribute to the work of the Committee. As outlined in the attached document, nominees may include:
- Persons with lived experience of childhood-onset disability
- Professionals working in the field
Individuals with both professional and lived experience
Preferably: members of the Oceania Academy*
Nominees should be able to actively participate in the work of the Committee, including attending virtual meetings (approximately five per year) and contributing to discussions and preparatory work. There may also be commitments in other IAACD activities.
Usual term of office is 3 years, extendable by a term if the nominating academy requests this.

Not a problem!
The preference around membership within Oceania Academy is to help support communication between the IAACD Committee and Oceania, as well as to ensure that our representatives are supported with their involvement. We are happy to work with people with lived experience in this role even if they are not yet an Oceania Academy member.
Wait…what is the IAACD?
The International Alliance of Academies of Childhood Disability (IAACD) is a global network of organisations and professionals who work with children and young people with childhood-onset disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, autism, developmental disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Its goal is to improve the health, wellbeing, participation, and quality of life of people with childhood-onset disabilities around the world by sharing knowledge, supporting research, providing education and training, and promoting best practice care.
The Oceania Academy, along with the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability (EACD) are proud to be the founding Member Academies of the IAACD.
